Travel: An Escape to Langkawi - Part 1

It's school holiday! I'm planning a trip with the kids again! It has been years since my last visit to Langkawi and it's time for the kids to see this beautiful island.  This island comes with history and stories.

Mahsuri was a young woman who lived in Langkawi, either during the 14th or 19th century. According to folklore, she was accused of adultery and executed by stabbing. Her tomb, Makam Mahsuri, has become a tourist attraction on the island.

Mahsuri was the daughter of a Malay couple who moved from their native Phuket to Langkawi in search of a better life. She was the most beautiful in all of Langkawi and married the warrior Wan Darus. As was required of him, her husband had to go to war, leaving Mahsuri behind. It was during this time that Mahsuri befriended a young man named Deraman. The village chief's wife was jealous of Mahsuri's beauty. She spread a rumour that Mahsuri was unfaithful and was having an affair with Deraman in the absence of Wan Darus. Eventually the rumours grew strong enough that the villagers openly accused her of adultery. Mahsuri pleaded her innocence, but no one believed her.

Mahsuri was to be tied to a tree (or pole) and stabbed to death but it didn't work. After every execution attempt failed, Mahsuri told them to kill her with her family's kris. When she was stabbed, white blood flowed from the wound, signifying her innocence. Some birds flew above her to cover her body. With her dying breath, Mahsuri cursed Langkawi to have seven generations of bad luck.

This time we are travelling with Firefly.  I've got cheaper fare compared to AirAsia (I'm sorry Abam Tony). Also the convenient of Subang Airport compared to KLIA2.  I paid about RM900+ for 4 of us including 20kg luggage allowance each person.  Good deal eh!  And the timing of the flight is just purrrrfect!

Booked our room at Senari Bay Resort, Chenang Beach at about RM180 per night (if not mistaken).  Not a five star but this resort received a very high rating on TripAdvisor.  So, why not!  I've also booked a rented car for us to move around the island.  An automatic Perodua Viva at RM80 for 48 hr + RM20 for delivery and return at the airport.  If you are looking for a rented car in Langkawi, you may call Pak Long at +60124471041.

This is where we're going to stay at.

Just have to wait for the kids to get home soon, packing and voila!! we're ready for our short holiday in Langkawi!
